Zotung

Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 29, 2026

Zotung is a community-built language-learning and preservation project. This policy explains the information the site may collect, how it is used, and the choices available to users, parents, and guardians.

Information we collect

When you create or use an account, the site may store your username, email address, display name, account role, login activity, and account preferences. Student and teacher features may also store classroom membership, lesson activity, quiz progress, contribution points, saved vocabulary, and review history.

When you contribute to the project, the site may store words, translations, definitions, example sentences, corrections, lesson material, votes, reports, images, audio recordings, and related review information. Approved language contributions may be displayed publicly. Classroom information is intended to remain available only to authorized members, teachers, and administrators.

Like most websites, the hosting platform and security tools may record technical information such as IP address, browser type, device information, referring page, requested pages, timestamps, cookies, and error or security logs.

How information is used

  • Provide accounts, lessons, classrooms, dashboards, dictionary search, and translation tools.
  • Review, correct, attribute, and preserve Zotung language contributions.
  • Track learning progress and community participation.
  • Protect users, investigate reports, prevent abuse, and maintain site security.
  • Respond to questions, account requests, and contribution submissions.
  • Understand aggregate site usage and improve the service.

Public contributions and sharing

Approved dictionary entries, translations, examples, lessons, and recordings may become part of the public Zotung language resource. Do not submit private information or material you do not have permission to share. The project does not sell personal information. Information may be processed by service providers that support website hosting, email delivery, analytics, spam prevention, backups, or security, subject to their own privacy terms and applicable agreements.

Children and student accounts

The site includes learning and classroom features that may be used by students. Students should use a display name and must not submit home addresses, telephone numbers, passwords, private messages, school schedules, or other identifying details in contributions, recordings, reports, or profile names.

A parent, guardian, teacher, or school representative who believes a child’s information was provided improperly may request access, correction, suspension of further collection, or deletion through the Contact page. The site team may require reasonable verification before acting on a request. Operators serving children under 13 should obtain any parental consent required by applicable law before collecting personal information.

Cookies and analytics

Cookies may be used for sign-in, security, preferences, saved words, consent choices, and site analytics. Browser settings can block or delete cookies, but account and classroom features may not work correctly without essential cookies.

Retention and security

Information is retained while needed to operate accounts, provide learning and preservation features, meet safety or legal obligations, resolve disputes, and maintain the integrity of reviewed language records. Information that is no longer required should be deleted or anonymized when reasonably practical. No online service can guarantee absolute security.

Your choices

You may request a copy, correction, or deletion of personal information associated with your account. WordPress also provides administrative tools for exporting and erasing personal data. Some approved language contributions may be retained in de-identified form to preserve the integrity and history of the community dictionary.

Third-party links

The site may link to services operated by others. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the project and its services change. The effective date above will be revised when material changes are published.
